Fall fishing is great and very little pressure

September and October are my favorite months to fish.  Bonefishing is good and the permit are a little more easy to feed.  Of course, the tarpon fishing is super fun and I have been getting into big tarpon crushing mullet in the Backcountry.  We can fish in the am and dive for lobster when it gets hot.

Slick calm!

The Poons are filling in here in the Keys

Tarpon fishing is getting good.  Water is 85 .

Bones are around in good numbers and Permit too?

Now is a great time to fish the Lower Keys and Key West.  Practice your casting because April is usually WINDY.

March Merkin Permit Tourney 2018

We are gearing up for the March Merkin next week. Looks like a big cold front is coming the night before the first day of fishing. I tied up some sweet flies and the skiff is ready. Alan and I got a nice permit in the Del Brown last July and hope to do as well or better in the MM.

BTT Symposium Tarpon Panel

I was at the Bonefish Tarpon Trust symposium last weekend in Weston , Florida with my good friend and Client Jay Decker from Patagonia.  We set up a small booth and talked about the cool new line.

I saw lots of friends from the fly angling world and made some new ones too.  I sat in on the Permit and Tarpon panel discussions and got some new perspectives on these fish.

A lot of time, money, and love is going into protecting tarpon, permit, and bonefish for now and the future.

Getting ready for the 2017 March Merkin

I’m preparing for another round of the March Merkin Permit Tourney .  This is a Fly only tournament where a guide and one angler fish for Permit on fly for three full days.

Permit on fly under pressure !

My angler and I will work as a team to find big permit and to place the skiff into the best position to deliver

the fly to very spooky fish.  It looks like good conditions are forecast for the March Merkin this year .

Wind in the 15-20Kt

range is perfect and helps us get in a little closer to these Permit which are always on “high alert”!
