July Permit on fly
It was a great three days this long weekend with my client and pal Alan Rivior .
We had good shots Friday . We did a split day Saturday, tarpon in the am and tailing permit in the late afternoon. The evening tailing sesh was amazing with many god shots and some very exciting wading. I docked the skiff at Half shell Raw Bar and we had a late diner at Prime. After the bone in ribeye and some killer wine we rolled back out and jumped a tarpon. Home after midnight. I set the alarm for 5am this morning but slept till 6. We were at my first permit spot by 7:30 and got into more sickwa tailing action. Spooky fish in slick calm conditions. the day got harder and harder. The last spot was a barren wasteland for an hour or so, then we got a shot at a cruising permit. We the saw a tailer but it vanished on us. By one it’s 1pm and Alan has an 8pn flight out of Miami. I saw a school of permit 150 feet out and tracked them. Alan made the shot at 60 feet and came tight to a solid permit. What a great way to end an epic weekend of fishing. Alan paid his dues to the permit gods. He has been down to fish with me in key west tree times this year for a total of 10 days.
Thanks for hanging in there buddy!
